UniKL Convocation returns with whirlwind of joy

 

The Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) Convocation returns for its 17th and 18th ceremony after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Graced by Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Mustain Billah, the main session of the auspicious ceremony honours 578 graduates, while the second session celebrated 727 graduates.

His Majesty Al-Sultan Abdullah, in his opening speech, said that UniKL has a huge mission to produce local and international human capital with high expertise and competitiveness.

“As a Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) university, UniKL must continue to be a catalyst for industrial development in Malaysia.

“That is why I highly praise UniKL’s move to pioneer various new fields such as sustainable energy, electric vehicles (EV), big data, Internet of Things (IoT) and aerospace,” said His Majesty Al-Sultan Abdullah.

Also in attendance were Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Binti Almarhum Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj; Rural Development Minister, Dato’ Seri Mahdzir Khalid; Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) Chairman, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajah Azizah Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Mohd Dun; Director General of MARA, YBhg. Dato’ Azhar Abdul Manaf; Deputy Director-General (Education) of MARA, YBhg. En. Razlan Haji Samsuri; and President/Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Dr. Roziah Omar.

His Majesty Al-Sultan Abdullah, who is also the Chancellor of UniKL presented PhD scrolls to 24 graduands and Special Awards to 47 graduands. 

As part of the ceremony, Dato’ Seri Mahdzir and Datuk Seri Panglima Hajah Azizah were introduced as the new Pro-Chancellors of UniKL.

Meanwhile, Puteri Amalia Azar Firdaus and Obaida Hani Farouq Abul Khair were named as the Chancellor Award recipients for the classes of 2020 and 2021, respectively. 

They were selected based on their excellent academic results, apart from their contributions to the university, institute and the students’ community.

This Convocation Ceremony will see a total of 10,547 graduates receive their respective scrolls, including 137 international students from 28 countries.
