UniKL FC upsets UKM FC on their own home ground

UniKL FC made history by becoming the first private institution of higher learning (IPTS) to hoist The Minister of Higher Education Trophy 2023 (PMPT ’23).

The anticipation was palpable as UniKL FC clashed with UKM FC, who were determined to reclaim the championship title after narrowly missing out in the previous tournament.

Despite playing at UKM FC’s home turf, UniKL FC emerged triumphant with a 1-0 victory at this 11th tournament edition, a victory that ultimately hinged on a stunning goal by Youssouf Chaibou Issoufou.

With this victory, UniKL FC not only secured their place in the history books but also walked away with a prize of RM12,000, accompanied by rolling and accompanying trophies and medals.

Simultaneously, UniKL showcased remarkable talent with two of its players earning well-deserved recognition: Youssouf Chaibou Issoufou secured the title of Top Scorer with an impressive tally of 11 goals.

At the same time, Muhammad Darwisy Abdullah was celebrated as the Championship’s Best Player.

Meanwhile, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) teams fought strongly, securing third and fourth place in the tournament.

UiTM United (UiTM Shah Alam) bagged a cash prize of RM7,000, along with medals, while UiTMPs FC (UiTM Perlis Branch) received RM5,000 in recognition of their efforts.

The Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) Deputy Secretary-General (Policy), YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Haji Megat Sany Megat Ahmad Supian graced the UKM stadium with his presence to award the well-earned prizes and the championship trophy.

PMPT ’23, a national-level championship that brought together both public and private higher education institutions, saw the participation of 12 teams featuring a total of 360 athletes and 120 officials.
