UniKL MITEC’s training equipment to boost relevant skills required for digital era – Dato’ Seri Mahdzir

Cutting-edge training equipment and simulators which are specially designed to fulfil the demands of the future career is what Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Industrial Technology (UniKL MITEC) is all about.

Not to mention its strategic location in the centre of industrial area in Johor, the Minister of Rural Development (KPLB), YB Dato’ Seri Mahdzir Khalid was impressed and satisfied with the simulators, hands-on learning and syllabus provided at the institute.

“Unlike decades ago, the syllabus and courses nowadays need to have specialisation related to an industry. UniKL operates on this basis, whereby each campus has its specialisation, for instance in aviation, maritime, rail and even medicine, in line with Malaysia’s transition into the digital era,” he said during an official visit to UniKL MITEC, recently.

Also present, KPLB Secretary-General, Dato’ Ramlan Harun; Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) Deputy Director-General (Education), Razlan Hj. Samsuri; MARA Johor State Office Director, Nor Uyon Shoib; MARA Corporation Sdn. Bhd. Chairman, YB. Senator Dato’ Wira Othman Hj. Aziz; Vice President of Group Internal Audit & Integrity at MARA Corporation, Norhisham Nordin; Chairman of UniKL, Prof. Emeritus Datuk Dr. Sukiman Sarmani; and President/Chief Executive Officer of UniKL, Datuk Dr. Roziah Omar.

Prior to having an engagement session with the students from UniKL MITEC and the other MARA Institute of Education (IPMa), Dato’ Seri Mahdzir visited two of the campus’ training warehouses.

During the official visit, he undertook a tour at a newly-developed simulator, Simulated Downstream Integrated Plant, which aims to train more highly skilled personnel in the operation, maintenance and safety field of the oil and gas industry.

Also launched by Dato’ Seri Mahdzir during the visit, the RM7.1 million-worth simulator is the only facility equivalent to the actual standard of the petroleum refining industry that is available at a Malaysian university.

“After the visit, I am satisfied with the engineering courses offered at this campus. The facilities provided enable the students to be relevant to the industry and in turn guarantee high employment opportunities not only in the country but also around the world,” he added.

For the record, UniKL MITEC’s average marketability rate of its graduates increased to 97.7% in 2020 based on the Graduate Tracer Study report.
