THE 10th University Scholars Leadership Symposium (USLS) will be held from August 1-7 at the Setia City Convention Centre in Shah Alam with the participation of 1,000 delegates from 80 countries.

The highlight of USLS 2019 is the opportunity for delegates to hear and share the experiences of invited speakers

And to ensure a smooth and successful organisation of USLS 2019, 40 student leaders from several countries namely Vietnam, Australia, United Kingdom, Spain, Thailand, United States, Venezuela, China, India, Hong Kong and Canada arrived to coordinate in tandem with the Local Organising Committee.

The LOC is chaired by Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysia-Italy Design Institute (UniKL MIDI) student Farah Izzati Ahmed Othman, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering Technology programme in Business Management.

A nine-member team from the Humanitarian Affairs Office in Bangkok, Thauland will also assist the LOC.

The USLS is a leadership conference and training programme for young leaders hosted by Humanitarian Affairs Asia – a United Nations Development programme that focuses on developing leaders to bring social change and unconditional service.

The Ministry of Education is co-host of USLS 2019 whilst the strategic partners are Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau and UniKL.

UniKL President and Chief Executive Officer Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, in his welcoming address during a luncheon gathering with delegates, said: “I would like to welcome all of you to UniKL. We are very happy to be part of USLS 2019 and look forward to it. This University is unique as we have 11 campuses all over the country specialising in different areas.”

“We hope all of you will enjoy this event and have a very successful 2019 USLS experience. As the leaders of your respective groups I want you to grab this opportunity to show that you are true leaders. It is not that every day you will have 200 people following your direction and leadership,” he stressed.

He added that USLS 2019 is the right platform for the younger generation to showcase their skills and capacity.

“What is important now is to understand the culture of Malaysians. Our culture may be different from that in your country and this is a great moment to learn and observe. As to the delegates from Malaysia, you will also need to understands the culture of our friends from abroad and communicate with them,” said Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham.

The delegates were earlier briefed by Kim Solomon, secretary general of Humanitarian Affairs Asia.

“USLS is was set in 2001 to set an action-based example for young people interested in making a difference for those less fortunate,” he said.

“There is a whole of service they these delegates can offer to society. The experience here will definitely change their own mind-sets and one that will be long lasting,” added Kim.
